Outgroup Bias and the Unacceptability of Tax Fraud

In countries with well-developed welfare state systems, it is often claimed that racial or ethnic minorities impose a heavy burden on social assistance programs without contributing to public goods. this study, we consider the attitudinal effects of anecdotal reports tax cheating by minorities. We conduct survey experiments in France and United States assess if people react more harshly fraud perpetrated members minority group rather than majority group. find no evidence status affects judgments perceptions about fraud, including among those right end political spectrum. Tax considered unacceptable regardless culprit’s origin.
